TIP SHEET: PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT (PPE)—WHAT TO WEAR & WHEN

Proper personal protective equipment is your first line of defense when working with TELONE by Teleos soil fumigant. Exposure can occur during handling, transfer, application, or equipment maintenance, therefore, it is necessary that PPE must be selected and worn according to the product label and site requirements. Wearing the right protection at the right time significantly reduces risk and keeps you compliant. Review the guidance below to ensure you’re fully protected before starting any task. Don’t shortcut your gear. Vapors are heavier than air and can build up fast in low spots, transfer areas, and enclosed spaces.

RESPIRATORS

  • Half-face + OV cartridge: required for most routine tasks with straight 1,3-D products (ex: TELONE™ II by Teleos).
  • Full-face + OV cartridge: required for chloropicrin blend products (ex: INLINE™, TELONE™ C-35 by Teleos).
  • SCBA (positive-pressure): required for spills, firefighting, and confined/enclosed areas.

GLOVES & BODY PROTECTION

  • Gloves: Viton® or EVAL (barrier laminate), preferred. Nitrile is okay for very short tasks only.
  • Coveralls: loose-fitting woven or non-woven fabric (Tyvek, Sontara, or Saranex-coated),
  • Footwear: neoprene snug-leg boots. No leather—it absorbs chemical and must be destroyed after contact.
  • Remove rings, watch bands, or anything that can trap chemical next to skin.

EYE PROTECTION

  • Minimum: safety glasses with brow and temple shields, or a face shield.
  • Full-face respirators double as eye protection.

RESPIRATORS

  • Store in a clean, dry, sealed plastic bag when not in use.
  • Wash facepiece with soap and warm water after each use; rinse and air dry.
  • Replace cartridges daily or when you detect any odor or irritation.
  • Must be fit-tested and fit-checked per OSHA 29 CFR 1910.134.

CLOTHING & GLOVES

  • Wash coveralls separately from other clothes with soap and warm water after each use; air dry in ventilated area.
  • Never wear clothing that still has product odor.
  • Leather items that contact product must be destroyed—do not try to clean or reuse.
